If you could have a simulated real-time zoom chat with your loved one after they have passed away – Would you?

This Beyond the Grave ‘to help with grief’ technology is exactly what is being offered to us right now in the cutting edge world of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and I don’t know what you think about it, but I’m quite frankly, rather terrified.

A Korean tech company has developed extraordinary technology that processes about 7 hours of video footage recorded before somebody has died that creates a kind of version of them that can answer questions and share memories from your shared past.

The result is that the deceased and the one left behind will be able to have a what appears to be a ‘real time’ chat from beyond the grave.

This technology is expected to cost in the region of £20,000 and each time you go into the studio to have a chat with your loved one, it’s another £1000.

I have 3 concerns about why this is a very bad idea and will not be at all helpful for the grieving process and to quote my own word in my interview on ITV’s Good Morning Britain yesterday is actually terrifying.

'Beyond The Grave' To Help With Grief Ai Tech Is Terrifying For 3 Reasons

3 Reasons Why This Type of AI Technology is Terrifying

  1. THIS TECHNOLOGY BLURS THE HEALTHY BOUNDARY OF WHAT IS REALITY AND WHAT IS DEEP FAKE

  2. GRIEVING PEOPLE WILL FEEL  STUCK AND UNABLE TO MOVE ON AND MOVE FORWARD WITH THEIR LIFE

  3. PEOPLE COULD BECOME CO-DEPENDANT WITH HUGE EMOTIONAL AND FINANCIAL COST IMPLICATIONS

This debate has serious ethical concerns and I am passionate about helping people move on and forward with their lives after they have lost their departed loved ones, and my fear is that this technology will exploit grieving people at their most vulnerable time. That terrifies me.

How I Can Help You?

Read Good Grief:

Good Grief By Dipti Tait

I recommend reading my first book Good Grief which I wrote in 2015 after I lost both my parents to cancer, and as an only child felt as if I had plunged into Orphan Grief.

Good Grief is a simple and easy to read book, and  is a very good introduction to how I coped with my own losses using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

Read Planet Grief:

Planet Grief By Dipti Tait To Help Deal With Loss, Grief And Change

My second book is called Planet Grief which I wrote in 2020 after I began working closely with all of my grieving clients.

I wrote this book because I realised that grief is something we experience in life, and not just in death.
