How to Stay Calm in Panic, Pandemic & Pandemonium

Our whole world is being rocked.

 

The three words that are being repeated right now are:

⚠️PAN IC

⚠️PAN DEMIC

⚠️PAN DEMONIUM

 

PAN means ALL. This is happening to ALL OF US right now.

 

Here are some of my tips for you to STAY CALM especially in PANIC | PANDEMIC | PANDEMONIUM

Right now, we are surrounded by problem after problem, crisis after crisis and much cause for concern. Naturally, this gets everybody’s mental alarm bell ringing loud and clear. That’s a lot of alarm bells going off at once! We are ALL in danger, we ALL feel threatened and ALL of our natural defence mechanisms kick in and we ALL instinctively panic. When we panic, we feel scared and anxious at the same time, and all this emotion can be overwhelming to our system.

  • Panic is useful to a certain extent because it GETS OUR ATTENTION. Panic is loud, and it triggers FEAR
  • Fear is useful to a certain extent because it helps us EVALUATE properly and stay SAFE
  • Anxiety is useful to a certain extent because it makes us STOP and THINK

⚠️ If PANIC, ANXIETY and FEAR get OUT OF CONTROL…

…they stop being useful

We need to use the Panic, Anxiety and Fear and convert it into PRODUCTIVITY and POWER

Even though everything around you is being rocked from side to side – You CAN stay CALM and find SOLUTIONS

PANIC, ANXIETY AND FEAR IS NORMAL

Recognise that the feelings of PANIC, ANXIETY and FEAR are normal reactions to THREAT. Notice and sit with the feelings, as they have appropriately got your attention – and gently allow them to subside. Once the raw feeling passes and you are able to see the usefulness of them – then the intellectual mind can kick in and help you think RATIONALLY and CALMLY. So you can make a proper assessment of the situation you are in and then appropriate decisions to take SENSIBLE actions based on REALITY and FACT rather than EMOTION and WORRY.

WE ARE ALL TRIGGERS AND BEING TRIGGERED

Remember, this is a global issue and that we are all getting TRIGGERED by the same triggers. The news reports, our social media feeds, general gossiping around us, the media. Human Beings are easily triggered and if you know that you are feeling the same feelings and emotions as everyone else – then you know that if you can stay centred, and keep your rational mind on board, this feeling of INTELLECTUAL CONTROL can feel CALMING and your ABILITY to REMAIN RATIONAL can have a POSITIVE ripple effect to those around you and in your social networks.

BREATHING IS IMPORTANT

We forget about our breathing when we panic. Whenever you feel your thoughts are turning into WORRIES – Just use your breath to engage your PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM. This is the opposite of Fight, Flight Freeze. The alarm bell inside the brain is ringing in reaction to the threat we face. However, we need to be able to switch the alarm bell off to think clearly and figure out solutions. The constant ringing will create more panic and keep us in a state of high alert, and this won’t allow us to think strategically. Breathing helps the alarm bell go quiet, so you are able to engage your RATIONAL and CALM mind and take ACTIONS that make LOGICAL SENSE.
